Current Volunteer Opportunities
You can make a significant difference in the lives of local people in need! Want to help take the hunger out of poverty? Over 1,055 volunteers at HHFB provided over 11,157 volunteer hours in 2022! Groups, individuals, and families are welcome to volunteer. You can volunteer once, or set up a recurring shift – whatever suits your schedule.
Volunteers are needed to help plant, harvest, and compost. No gardening experience is necessary. Training and support are provided to volunteers during the volunteer sessions.
This opportunity to volunteer not only allows you to contribute to the raising of thousands of pounds of food, but is also a way to learn about sustainable growing. The minimum age for volunteering in the garden is 10. Available times are Fridays in May from 9-12pm June – Oct from 8-11am
See the Garden & Gleaning page or contact coordinator Cory Lamping for more information about the program.
Join our incredible team of compassionate volunteers!
You’ll have to opportunity to engage in various rewarding activities, from sorting and organizing nourishing food items to picking up generous donation (if you’re willing to use your personal vehicle). The warehouse can experience temperature fluctuation, so proper clothing is paramount (Closed toed shoes are required at all times for safety).
Volunteer shifts are highly flexible, but are easiest to schedule with individuals over groups.
Available times are M/Tu/Th between 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM and W/F between 10:30 AM – 4:30 PM.
We also stage food for our agencies on Tuesday and Thursday from 1-2:30, this is a new process for HHFB and can use your help to get food to our agencies!
Help is sometimes also needed in the office with filing, preparing mailings, etc. Volunteer shifts are often best suited for individuals rather than groups.
Hoosier Hills Food Bank respects and values our volunteers and has established policies and procedures for their protection and support. Our Volunteer Orientation Manual contains information on opportunities, rights and responsibilities, grievance procedures and risk and safety issues. Children are welcome as volunteers, although some restrictions are in place for their safety. If you have questions about whether a volunteer activity is appropriate for your child, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator.
Contact our Manager of Volunteer Services and Community Engagement, Ryan Jochim, at (812) 334-8374 or volunteer@hhfoodbank.org for more information or to schedule a volunteer shift.
Please note that when participating in any volunteer activity, wear close-toed shoes!
