Upcoming Events in 2025
Hoosier Hills will kick off Hunger Action Month with its third Farm Fresh Friday produce distribution. On Friday August 31, 2023 from 8:30 am to 3 pm, anyone in need is invited to come by the food bank at 2333 West Industrial Park Drive on the west side of Bloomington to receive fresh produce.
“During Hunger Action Month in September we’re going to be asking the community to support the food bank in several ways and we thought having another Farm Fresh Friday right before that was a great way to demonstrate the value and importance of distributing fresh produce to people who struggle to purchase it,” said HHFB Executive Director and CEO Julio Alonso.
Other Hunger Action Month activities include the opportunity to support HHFB through the Bloomingfoods Positive Change program. Shoppers at Bloomingfoods can round up their purchases with the additional funds donated to the food bank.
Upland Brewing Company will also be supporting the food bank with a Pint Night in September, on a date that is yet to be announced.
HHFB hopes to cap off Hunger Action Month with a huge showing at Hoosier Hysteria on September 29th. The annual IU basketball event encourages fans to bring a food donation, and it is one of the food bank’s largest annual food drives. Come out and donate!

Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve.” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Not a day off for Bloomington residents. Each year, community members spend the day volunteering at Hoosier Hills Food Bank and other agencies around Bloomington.
Following Dr. King’s example, we take the holiday created in his honor to answer, “life’s most persistent and urgent question; what are you doing for others?” Despite the cold weather and icy conditions, 65 individuals came out to volunteer at our warehouse and neighborhood pantry this MLK Day 2025. This includes our dedicated weekly Monday volunteers, people from the Slotegraaf-Niehoff Law Firm, the Christian Student Fellowship, the FaithLed Fellowship, and the National Association of Colored Women’s Club (NACWC).
They spent the day helping with repacking pasta from 2000-pound bins into 2-pound bags, packing boxes of food with 24 shelf stable items for our CSFP Senior Box program, and helping run one of our Families First Neighborhood pantries. By the end of the day, they packed more than 400 CSFP Senior Boxes, repackaged 300 bags of pasta, and served 139 households. Their hard work amassed a total of 103.5 volunteer hours!
